Padres Review Part I
November 23rd, 2009 | by garvey6 |Okay to lead it off I don’t like the firing of Kevin Towers. The guy did more with nothing than anybody outside of Billy Beane. The Padres went 37-25 after July 28th, winning several series against teams in contention…
What was Kevin Towers doing wrong again Mr.Moorad?
Hoyer says all the right things but what can he do with the Padres budget instead of watching Theo play with the Red Sox budget?
“The Padres payroll will likely start with a four “, means only 40 million, not 100+ like the Sox.
Will Hoyer be praised in two years if the Padres win the World Series? Will we be praising Hoyer or Towers? Come on, two years later it would still be Towers’ players unless the 2010 draft picks played a huge part which I sincerely doubt would happen.
Thats like blaming Obama for our recession. It’s not his fault, though he is still not “fixing” it, just as Padres fans would think Hoyer would be instead of Towers.
The pieces are in place though, but the Padres could improve in center field. Unfortunately cheap righty power hitting center fielders don’t grow on trees let alone moneyball trees so what can Hoyer do? Venable who hits lefty could slot nicely there with his power vs. Righties (12 HRs in 222ABs)if he could turn into a Mike Cameron type with out the Mike Cameron salary. Gwynn can motor but has trouble vs. leftys as well and I think would make a very good fourth outfielder.
Is anybody available besides Cameron thats cheap and can show these Altar Boys how to become good ballplayers?
